The Core Sound Marine Science Academy (CSMSA) will be an exciting, fast-paced day camp. The camp will be June 20-23, 2023, with Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday being full days (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and Friday being a half day (8 a.m.-1 p.m.). The Academy will begin and end each day at the Museum on Harkers Island except on Friday when we meet at McDonald’s in Beaufort.
Students will be active every day and will be involved in hands-on activities such as collecting samples in sounds and marshes, learning about commercial fishing and experimenting with buoyancy. Students will also work with dissections and technology, and spend time aboard a research vessel trawling for specimens, and time at Cape Lookout.
CSMSA is open to 30 students who will be entering 7th, 8th or 9th grade in the fall of 2023. Students will be notified of their acceptance by June 5th. The total tuition is $150 to cover food, transportation, insurance and other camp experiences.
A limited number of scholarships are available. The scholarship form is included. Once accepted, a non-refundable deposit of $50 will be due. The balance of $100 will be due by June 5th.
