Waterfowling Camp is Core Sound traditions of hunting and carving.  Join us to learn more about the importance of decoys, birds, and carving.

Learn about the science and art of Core Sound’s living history of waterfowling traditions with local carvers, scientists, teachers and friends.

This two-day camp will immerse participants in both the science as well as the art of waterfowling culture on Core Sound! Campers will spend a day at the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum & Heritage Center where they will dive into the science of waterfowl habitat, nesting tendencies, environmental threats to waterfowl, and more! Next, we will visit the Core Sound Decoy Carvers guild where members of the guild will guide students through the carving, from scratch, of their own Core Sound decoy!

Science Day Learn migratory patterns, bird identification, the importance of protecting nesting areas and why Core Sound has been a favorite place for ducks and hunters for generations. Learn about the hunting clubs of Core Sound and hear stories of the great hunters and guides of yesterday and today! Outside experiences along the shore and Willow Pond trail will be part of the day’s activities.
Carving Day Local carvers will guide young carvers in learning the basics of turning wood into decoys and shorebirds safely, with opportunities to carve, whittle, sand and paint their own birds!
