Drawing skills development workshop with artist Susan Mason

Hone your drawing skills with Atlantic artist Susan Mason in a one-day workshop at the Museum’s 806 Arendell Street location. The workshop is happening between 10am and 4pm with a one-hour lunch on your own.

Drawing Basics with a focus on Down East Culture:
Basic drawing knowledge is the basis of any art expression. This class provides an introduction to different types of drawing: blind contour, contour, gesture, construction drawing and various types of drawing media. Please bring a sketchbook, pencils and a kneaded eraser. Susan will demo and discuss use of additional drawing media.

The cost of the class is $35 for members, $45 for non-members and placement is limited to 6. Call the museum at 252-728-1500 or email pamdmorris@coresound.com to sign up.

About the Artist

Susan Mason grew up “Down East” in Atlantic, NC, where she developed a great love for the natural world. She expresses her love of nature through art and photography. Susan graduated from East Carolina University and taught secondary school for 26 years – the last 21 of those years were spent teaching in Inupiaq Eskimo villages in Artic Alaska. She has worked as a freelance illustrator in both North Carolina and Alaska and has illustrated; The Owl and the Red Fox, Similes for Mother and The Little Turkle.

Susan was selected to produce the 2007 White House Christmas Ornament for Cape Lookout National Seashore and the 2008 NC Seafood Festival poster. Her painting The Fisherman was selected by the Coastal Pastel Society as Best in Show in 2010.

Susan has exhibited both in Alaska and North Carolina and is a member of the Carteret County Arts Council, Arts and Crafts Coalition and the NC Wildlife Artists Society.
