Waterfowl Weekend = Christmas Down East
This weekend has become Down East's most important weekend. Beginning 24 years ago with the Core Sound Decoy Festival, this weekend has grown to be the area's weekend to celebrate and share its heritage with thousands who will make the journey to Harkers Island to see, eat, learn, buy and feel the living traditions of Down East communities. For those who are from here, this weekend has become a tradition of its own; the smell of onions from the school, the tents moving in at the museum, the flurry of activity up and down the roadside at the local churches for special dinners, local craft sales, yard sales, and the special feeling the Island sends out. All of it together helps make this weekend our time to share our love for "who we are and where we're from" with the outside world. It is an experience!

Special Note To All Who Will Join Us
We hope that you come prepared to have a great time this year at Waterfowl Weekend. We also hope you will come prepared to help support the museum's future by joining the museum, making a donation at the door, enjoying our local seafood, bidding and buying at the auction, and by joining us for the Friday night event. The past few years' weak economy has brought about many challenges so please come willing and eager to help make sure the museum's future is secure. You'll learn more when you get here. YOUR attendance and support means more this year than ever! We'll be looking for you -- "at the end of the road" the first weekend in December, ok?
