The Core Sound Waterfowl Museum & Heritage Center has gone west!  West Morehead that is!  In facing the challenges of the “new economy,” the Museum has opened the Core Sound Corner Store in the Marketplace Shopping Center (where RackRoom and Blockbuster are now located) and are selling the very best selection ever of used household stuff, furniture, toys, etc.  [See list below.] Our Grand Opening was April 1, 2011, with a ribbon cutting hosted by the Carteret County Chamber of Commerce.  A BBQ lunch catered by White Swan followed the event.  Here are some photographs from our opening day...

Based on the success of our yard sales years ago and our research of thrift shops run by other non-profits, we know this will be a great project for Core Sound, not only in the funds we can raise but also having a location in town that will remind folks of the good work going on “at the end of the road” on Harkers Island.

We know that our members and community supporters will help give their overflow of good items.  We also firmly believe our volunteers will once again rise to the challenge and see this as an opportunity to give of their time and resources.  And we'd love for you to join us!

A special thanks to the Broughton Family of Raleigh and Morehead City for their willingness to share their space with us this first year of business.  Jimmy Broughton represented the family during our Opening Ceremonies on April 1.

Here are the items we are looking for:
Household items, furniture, antiques and collectibles, arts and craft supplies, yard and garden equipment, childrens items and toys, tools, electronics and appliances, sporting goods, hunting and fishing supplies, etc.  At this time we are not accepting clothing or mattresses.

All items should be repaired, cleaned and ready for sale. Tax receipt forms for donations will be available upon request but we will not be assigning a value.  An itemized list of your donations would be helpful in completing these forms.

We are currently accepting donations on Thursday (10am-3pm) and during business hours on Friday and Saturday (10am-5pm).  We are able to pick up large items.  Please call to arrange a pickup time:  728-1500 or 723-0982.    We are also looking for volunteers interested in working at the store.  Call Ann Kelly at 728-1500 x 24 to sign up today!
